Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art acknowledges it resides on the ancestral territory of the Osage, Kaw, and Otoe-Missouria, among other tribal nations forcibly moved to the region such as the Shawnee, Wyandot, Delaware, Potawatomi, Sac and Fox and Kiikaapoi (Kickapoo) nations. We recognize and support the continued vibrancy of Native communities and cultures today who continue to thrive, as well as the inherent sovereignty of tribal nations. We are compelled to serve and advocate for these communities in accordance with our public mission.

Kemper Museum acknowledges and respects the diversity of Native people connected to this land today. Many recognize the land and all beings who live within it as relatives. We acknowledge the earth we inhabit, the waters of the Blue River, the Kansas River, the Missouri River, and the plants, animals, and people supported by them.

In 2023, Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art added two new members to its Board of Trustees, Erica McGeachy Crenshaw and Toma Wolff.

Crenshaw, a former Goldman Sachs equity research analyst, is a philanthropist and philanthropic director based in Kansas City, MO. She has an extensive background in finance with experience scaling and selling businesses along with providing board leadership for non-profit and educational organizations across the country. Her primary goal is to maximize her impact within her community, and she has a particular passion for education, women’s health, and the arts. Crenshaw's motto is “bloom where you are planted while serving with urgency.”

Wolff, co-founder and former director of the Byron C. Cohen Gallery for Contemporary Art, is a private art advisor based in Kansas City, MO. As one of the first gallerists to represent and promote national and international artists in Kansas City, Wolff is proud to have championed influential artists early in their career including Shirin Neshat, Petah Coyne, Ursula von Rydingsvard, Jim Campbell, Hung Liu, Kara Walker, Betty Woodman, and Donald Lipski, among many others. "Art is the storyteller of our history," says Wolff. "I believe contemporary art is a vital component to help us understand our world."
