Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art acknowledges it resides on the ancestral territory of the Osage, Kaw, and Otoe-Missouria, among other tribal nations forcibly moved to the region such as the Shawnee, Wyandot, Delaware, Potawatomi, Sac and Fox and Kiikaapoi (Kickapoo) nations. We recognize and support the continued vibrancy of Native communities and cultures today who continue to thrive, as well as the inherent sovereignty of tribal nations. We are compelled to serve and advocate for these communities in accordance with our public mission.

Kemper Museum acknowledges and respects the diversity of Native people connected to this land today. Many recognize the land and all beings who live within it as relatives. We acknowledge the earth we inhabit, the waters of the Blue River, the Kansas River, the Missouri River, and the plants, animals, and people supported by them.

The art of our time is essential. Contemporary artists engage today’s most relevant issues in ways that spark inspiration, challenge assumptions, prompt dialogue, and bring deeper meaning to our lives.

Kemper Museum cares for nearly 1,500 artworks by hundreds of artists in our growing Collection. Each year, eight to ten rotating exhibitions and major projects connect visitors with works from the collection and beyond, with a special focus on emerging, mid-career artists, as well as artists from historically excluded groups.

Raven Halfmoon: Ride or Die

Established in 2016, the Atrium Project is an annual series of commissioned projects that presents the work of emerging and mid-career Hispanic and Latinx artists.

In Fall 2025, The Atrium Project: 10 Years, 10 Stories will mark the initiative’s 10th anniversary with an exhibition featuring all participating artists—several represented in the Kemper Museum’s collection.

Raven Halfmoon

Edra Soto’s installation the place of dwelling, is commissioned for Kemper Museum’s tenth annual Atrium Project and is a direct response to the original 1994 Gunnar Birkerts architecture.

Initially inspired by conversations around the 2026 World Cup and potential influx of international visitors to Kansas City, this exhibition foregrounds the already present and increasingly expansive global context in which we live.
