Free artist talks, workshops, and more will enliven this exhibition of feminist drawings that reimagine some of the best-known literary narratives through both onsite and virtual programming.

KANSAS CITY, MO—From January 27 to May 15, 2022, Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art will present nearly 20 programs—both virtual and in-person—in conjunction with the exhibition “Natalie Frank: Unbound." Spanning a decade of Brooklyn, New York-based artist Natalie Frank’s (American, born 1980) feminist drawing practice, the exhibition will present work from the artist’s four major drawing series: “Tales of the Brothers Grimm”  (2011–14), “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” (2016), “Story of O” (2017–18), and “Madame d’Aulnoy” (2019–20).

Designed for an intergenerational audience with broad interests, these programs provide multiple entry points into the complex issues at play in Frank’s drawings, as well as the artistic techniques she employs in her creative practice. Traditional Kemper Museum favorites like themed trivia night and Camp Kemper art day camps for kids will continue and new programs including a guided figure drawing series, and a collaboration with the Young Friends of the Kansas City Public Library will debut. All programs are free and open to the public, thanks to museum members and supporters.

As the pandemic continues, many of these programs will be presented and archived virtually, allowing people to participate from all over the world at their convenience. Please refer to the museum’s safety precautions for in-person programs, which are updated as the situation continues to evolve.

Experience "Natalie Frank: Unbound" from a literary perspective in collaboration with the Young Friends of the Kansas City Public Library. Naphtali Faris, Lone Jack branch manager at Mid-Continent Public Library; and Kaite Stover, director of readers' services at the Kansas City Public Library, will facilitate a participatory discussion with Jade Powers, assistant curator at Kemper Museum. In advance, participants will receive a list of readings, podcasts, and other supplemental materials compiled by Young Friends of the Kansas City Public Library to enrich the experience.

Virtual Guided Meditations
