Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art acknowledges it resides on the ancestral territory of the Osage, Kaw, and Otoe-Missouria, among other tribal nations forcibly moved to the region such as the Shawnee, Wyandot, Delaware, Potawatomi, Sac and Fox and Kiikaapoi (Kickapoo) nations. We recognize and support the continued vibrancy of Native communities and cultures today who continue to thrive, as well as the inherent sovereignty of tribal nations. We are compelled to serve and advocate for these communities in accordance with our public mission.

Kemper Museum acknowledges and respects the diversity of Native people connected to this land today. Many recognize the land and all beings who live within it as relatives. We acknowledge the earth we inhabit, the waters of the Blue River, the Kansas River, the Missouri River, and the plants, animals, and people supported by them.

The Seven Artists you've seen at Kemper Museum whose work will be included in the upcoming Whitney Biennial and Venice Biennale. 

Belkis Ayón, Firelei Báez, Louise Nevelson, Paula Rego, and Elias Sime, selected for the Venice Biennale; Pao Houa Her and Dyani White Hawk selected for the Whitney Biennial

In recent days, the lineups for two of the most-watched exhibitions in the contemporary art world: the Venice Biennale and the Whitney Biennial. Seven of the artists selected for these two prestigious exhibitions have ties to Kemper Museum. 

Belkis Ayón (Cuban, 1967–1999), whose solo exhibition Nkame: A Retrospective of Cuban Printmaker Belkis Ayón (1967–1999), was presented at Kemper Museum in 2018 was selected for the Venice Biennale. 
  

Firelei Báez (Dominican-American, born 1981), who created the 2017 Atrium Project Installation, To See Beyond Its Walls (and access the places that lie beyond), was selected for the Venice Biennale. Her painting from the installation, To Access the Places that Lie Beyond is now in the Kemper Museum Permanent Collection, and is on view at Kemper Museum through February 20 in the exhibition Contemporary Art and the Missouri Bicentennial.
  

Nan Goldin (American, born 1953), whose work Jimmy Paulette and Taboo! Undressing, NYC is in the Kemper Museum Permanent Collection was selected for the Venice Biennale. 
  

Pao Houa Her (born 1982, Laos; lives and works in Blaine, MN), whose work is included in the upcoming exhibition The Regional which will be on view at Kemper Museum in summer 2022 was selected for the Whitney Biennial. 
  

Louise Nevelson (American, 1899–1988), who was the subject of Kemper Museum's 2018 exhibition Deconstructing Louise Nevelson, was selected for the Venice Biennale. Two untitled works by Nevelson are in the Kemper Museum Permanent Collection. 
  

Paula Rego (Portuguese-British, born 1935), whose work Recreation is in the Kemper Museum Pemanent Collection and is currently on view in the Kemper Museum Atrium in connection to the current exhibition Natalie Frank: Unbound was selected for the Venice Biennale. 
  

Elias Sime (Ethiopian, born 1968), whose solo exhibition Elias Sime: Tightrope was presented at Kemper Museum in 2020 was selected for the Venice Biennale. His work Tightrope: On the Edge is now part of the Kemper Museum Permanent Collection. 
  

Dyani White Hawk (Sičáŋǧu Lakota, born 1976), whose solo exhibition Dyani White Hawk: Speaking to Relatives was presented at Kemper Museum in 2021, was selected for the Whitney Biennial. Her work Carry III is now part of the Kemper Museum Permanent Collection.
