Michael Kirkendoll performance Friday, May 5

Around the Museum

Michael Kirkendoll will perform Erik Satie’s enigmatic and rarely-heard work Vexations in a continuous, 11-hour reading accompanying the current installation of Rashid Johnson’s Hail We Now Sing Joy at the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art. Kirkendoll’s performance will begin at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 5 when the museum opens and continue until closing at 9 p.m., approaching as close to the intended 840 repetitions of Satie’s short work as possible. Visitors are encouraged to immerse themselves in the gallery space and experience how art and perspective change through time.
