In Loving Memory...

Around the Museum

It is with immense sadness and overwhelming loss that we share the passing of our dear friend and beloved colleague, Chef Jennifer Maloney. On December 25, 2016 the family released the following statement, "At 9:55am on Christmas morning, Our love Jennifer Marie Maloney passed away peacefully and with her immediate family at her side … God bless you all for your prayers and good wishes. Peace."

"Our hearts are broken. Chef Jennifer Maloney was synonymous with Café Sebastianne and Kemper Museum,” said Executive Director Barbara O’Brien. “She had a zest for life and a commitment to excellence that will not be equaled. Our deepest sympathy to her husband, Richard, who is also a colleague, and Jen's loving family."

Jennifer was an active presence in the Kansas City culinary and philanthropic scene. Her time and talent benefitted countless charities and institutions including Boys Grow and the Children’s Center for the Visually Impaired. Best Chefs America honored Maloney in 2013, and in 2016 KC Magazine selected her as Star Executive Chef. In 2000, Maloney was honored to present dinner at the esteemed James Beard House in New York.

“Our hearts are deeply saddened by Jen's passing. We have lost a dear friend and a Kansas City institution, beloved by so many,” said Museum Board of Trustees Chairman Mary Kemper Wolf. “For over twenty years, her heart and soul went into every artful creation at Café Sebastienne. She was by far the greatest work of art at Kemper Museum.  We are all better for having been touched by her passion, humanity and joy.”

The family has announced that a Celebration of Life for Jennifer Marie Maloney will be held on Sunday, January 8, 2016 from 4–8:00 p.m. at Studio Dan Meiners, 2500 W Pennway St, Kansas City, MO 64108.
