Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art Launches New Website and App

KANSAS CITY – July 7, 2015 – Kemper Museum recently launched an innovative, completely new website and first-ever museum app. Available at, the website features a responsive design that gives users access to all site content across any device or screen size. The free app is available for download in iTunes App Store for Apple products and the Google Play Store for Android devices. Both technologies offer richer content on the Museum and its Permanent Collection, while significantly increasing opportunities for online engagement.

The website, Kemper Museum’s first completely new website since 2003, was built incorporating best practices for design, functionality, and user experience. Boasting a clean and welcoming design that encourages user discoverability through a revolving field of modules, the site makes it clear that the Kemper Museum experience is varied and holistic rather than a singularly linear experience. The new site additionally provides a platform to present high-quality imagery, audio, and video related to exhibitions and Permanent Collection works. A user-friendly, sortable calendar listing all Museum events and programs makes it easier than ever to track opportunities for engagement. A News page provides inside information on all things Kemper Museum. Lastly, the renowned Permanent Collection of Kemper Museum has a home on this site that will expand and grow as the collection grows. Currently with more than 60 works online, Museum staff will be identifying and loading several additional works each month until the entire collection is online.

"The beautifully designed new website substantially expands Kemper Museum's digital presence, making us more accessible than ever," said Barbara O’Brien, Kemper Museum executive director. "Museum visitors can now engage on multiple levels with our programs, exhibitions, collection, and other related content. I am proud that we are expanding our reach to many communities: to teachers who are planning visits with students; to families from a distance that might be challenged to visit Kemper Museum on a regular basis; to our regular visitors who want to see and enjoy works from the Permanent Collection, new menu items from Café Sebastienne, or purchase items from our Shop,” she added.

The website was designed by Johnny Lighting Strikes Again, an award-winning Kansas City creative company.
