This children's activity and coloring book is based on The History of Art, a series of 110 oil paintings by Frederick J. Brown at the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art. This activity book invites you to color, draw, and write while thinking about these paintings.

The images in this book are drawn from Frederick J. Brown's The History of Art (1994/2000), on permanent display in the Kemper Museum's popular Café Sebastienne. Each painting in The History of Art represents an important movement or figure in art throughout the ages. Brown painted many works in the style of various artists from art history.

The Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art presents this activity book as part of its ongoing dedication to education and the community. Through its many public programs, workshops, lectures, family days, concerts, film series, and outreach projects, the Kemper Museum continues to serve as a free educational resource for the entire community, for all ages and abilities.

Zephyr: Paintings by Gajin Fujita Essays by Elizabeth Dunbar, Dave Hickey, Franklin Sirmans, and Jason Steuber Price: $29.95 96 pages, 29 color plates, 14 collateral images, 7 x 11 inches, ISBN-10: 1-891246-13-5, ISBN-13:978-1-891246-13-5, Library of Congress Control Number: 2006926272, published: September 2006, Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art

Zephyr: Paintings by Gajin Fujita (September 8 - November 5, 2006) is the first major solo museum exhibition of the provocative and visually stunning work of the acclaimed young Los Angeles artist Gajin Fujita. His paintings are elaborate fusions of contemporary urban street life and traditional Japanese iconography. The past and present, high art and pop culture, and Eastern and Western aesthetics exist in harmony in Fujita's paintings, demonstrating the artist's masterful ability to create visual metaphors for today's global hybridized society. Organized by Kemper Museum curator Elizabeth Dunbar, the exhibition will survey nearly a decade of Fujita's dazzling works.

The catalogue, printed by Asia Pacific Offset in Hong Kong, features an extended essay by Elizabeth Dunbar, curator of the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art; as well as essays by Dave Hickey, independent curator and professor of English and creative writing at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas; and Franklin Sirmans, curator of modern and contemporary art for the Menil Collection; and Jason Steuber, former assistant curator of Asian art at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. The catalogue also includes a foreword by Kemper Museum Director Rachael Blackburn Cozad, an exhibition checklist, and biographical information about the artist. The catalogues are available September 2006. The Museum thanks L.A. Louver for supporting the publication of this catalogue.
