2020 Gala

When we asked Linda and Brad Nicholson to serve as Honorary Chairs of our 2020 Gala Reopening, they told us, "We believe that art—at its most basic level—truly has ways of connecting us all. Art transcends our background, our age, or economic status, and can help heal at a time when healing is needed more than ever."

Thanks to everyone who supported our Gala Reopening.

After a 181-day closure due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Kemper Museum reopened on October 10 with a reimagined gala that featured new exhibitions and outdoor performances by some of the area’s most exciting artists.

The gala was expanded into an all-day affair to safely spread out attendance with limited capacity timed tickets. Guests toured new exhibitions of work by Elias Sime, Joiri Minaya, and Dawoud Bey and enjoyed music by Matt Villinger Trio, Eboni & The Ivories, Calvin Arsenia, and Stephonne.

The Kemper Gala Reopening was 2020’s major fundraising event to help carry out the mission to enrich lives through the experience of contemporary art, ensuring our community has access to world-class exhibitions and programs for all ages and abilities, all free of charge. Honorary Chairs Linda and Brad Nicholson led the successful fundraising effort along with Kemper Museum’s Board of Trustees. Emily Uhlmann Fehsenfeld and Damian Lair headed the event planning committee.
