Wyeth draws the subject for his realistic tempera and watercolor paintings entirely from his surroundings, neighbors, family, and friends. This painting portrays Wyeth's friend Jimmy Lynch standing beside his Harley-Davidson motorcycle. Shrouded in the twilight of memory, the scene refers to the friends' youthful outings with other farm boys, when they rode through the country, nude, on warm summer nights.
