In his suspended wall pieces, freestanding sculptures, small assemblages, and mural projects, Wilmarth explored balance, strength, fragility, tension, translucence, and light. Celebrated for his abstract sculptures of glass and metal combining formal beauty with a poetic sensibility, Wilmarth juxtaposed a fragile, frosted blown-glass orb with rugged bronze and steel plates in the Museum's work.
