| One of America's most cryptic abstractionists, Twombly
has lived as an expatriate in Italy since 1957. A second-generation Abstract
Expressionist, he was one of the first American artists to become interested
in the innocent scribblings of graffiti. This painting is an excellent example
of Twombly's own delicate graffiti and may suggest the inspiration he found
in the work of Swiss-born painter Paul Klee. |
