| Best known for his lush paintings of cakes, pies,
and other edibles, Thiebaud developed a confectionery paint handling ideally
suited to his pastry subjects. His talent as a caricaturist of the American
scene is expressed in his cityscapes of the early 1970s. After moving to
San Francisco's Potrero Hill district in 1973, he began a series of whimsical
paintings of the city's steep streets. |
