Painter and printmaker Oliveira is loosely associated with the Bay Area Figurative artists but his work does not fit squarely within that movement, nor any other. The often-solitary figure is Oliveira's starting point, but he infuses his work with emotional, spiritual, even magical overtones. The Museum's painting reference's the artist's active fascination with the form and flight of birds.
