| Nelson's work references
the right heritage of American landscape painting, including works of 19th-century
painters Thomas Cole and Albert Bierstadt. Rather than emulating the past
or appropriating those images, however, Nelson focuses on the passage of
time and her own artistic process, illustrating current relationships between
art and nature. She further removes her work from traditional landscape
painting by using two-inch-thick plywood board instead of canvas, which
she leaves unframed. |
