| Throughout his career, Kitaj
has experimented with a variety of styles, and his work is rich with references
to historical events, art history, literature, and philosophy. He left the
United States in the 1950s to study in England, where he worked with many
British artists including David Hockney. He returned to America in the late
1990s, the phase of his career in which Kitaj executed the Museum's painting
The Archaeologist. |
