| Realist painter and critic
Downes immigrated to the United States from England in 1961. His cityscapes
and landscapes meticulously record the coexistence of humankind and the
natural environment. He is a careful observer of the details of the real
world, and seems to pursue a documentary approach to landscape painting. |
