| Ralston Crawford began
painting in a Cubist-like Precisionist style that can be compared to paintings
by other American modernists such as Charles Sheeler, Charles Demuth,
and even Georgia O’Keeffe. Throughout his career he remained mostly
devoted to a hard-edged style, painting scenes of industry in keeping
with his style, such as ships, bridges, cargo, and structures such as
in this painting. The simple lines of this painting are an excellent background
for the forces of industry and power that the turbine shafts represent. |
