Image and Rights Requests

Procedures
All requests for permission to reproduce images must be submitted in writing and should include the following information:
description of desired image (artist, title and date of work, accession number, if known)
format desired (slide, 4x5 color transparency, black-and-white photograph, digital file)
description of proposed use (nature of the publication, print run, publication date, title, author, and location of the image within the publication)
Permission for such use is granted on a case-by-case basis and at the sole discretion of the Kemper Museum. For all other requests, please provide as much detailed information as possible concerning the image and the proposed use. If no photography exists for the image you request, we may be able to photograph the object for an additional fee.

Formats
The Kemper Museum provides images in a number of formats, including 4 x 5 color transparencies, black-and-white photographs, and color slides. The Kemper Museum may also offer digital files for certain uses. Color transparencies are loaned for a four-month period. Additional rental time is available for a nominal fee. Slides are provided for personal or scholarly use only; reproductions are not permitted from this medium.

Payment

Upon receipt of your request, we will send you an invoice outlining any fees due and our reproduction guidelines. We accept payment by credit card in U.S. dollars and by money order or check drawn on a U.S. bank, payable to “Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art.” Fees are nonrefundable, and permission is granted for one edition, one use only. Payment is required prior to release of all photographic material.

Use
In return for the use-fee payment, the Kemper Museum grants approval only to the extent of its rights relating to the request. Certain works of art, as well as photographs of those works, may be protected by copyright, trademark, or related interests not owned by the Kemper Museum. The applicant is responsible for securing any other necessary permissions. The Kemper Museum grants permission only for the use of color transparencies, black-and-white copy photographs, and digital files obtained from the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art.
