Room to Grow
Are you ready for yet another exciting and new art venue in Kansas City? Is there room? Is there interest? Is the funding there? Put aside your doubts and ratchet up your expectations because Kemper at the crossroads is coming soon!
Last fall we took some time to consider where the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art wanted to be in the next ten years. At just 14 years old, we've already experienced rapid growth. In our signature building, the unique and jewel-like creation of Latvian architect Gunnar Birkerts, we've made more room for our permanent collection in the Sally Kemper Wood Gallery and expanded our Barbara Uhlmann Gallery. We also added a landmark property to our campus (Kemper East), which provided both new galleries and expanded administrative space. Meanwhile, the popularity of Café Sebastienne has exploded and Chef Jennifer Maloney regularly prepares seated dinners for more than 200 people while never losing sight of her dedication to quality and to local producers.
Next up, our fearless Chairman, Crosby Kemper, has led the way to the purchase of a new space in Kansas City's Crossroads district, fondly known to many people as John O'Brien's Dolphin Gallery. Kemper at the Crossroads will open this fall, and it is our hope that it will bring contemporary art to new audiences and help to solidify what is already a bustling area of art galleries, artist studios, restaurants, retail, and urban residential areas. Programming for Kemper at the Crossroads is currently underway and the Museum's Board of Trustees and staff are excited to look towards new initiatives and continued collaborative efforts with other arts organizations.
Please join us in wishing John O'Brien and his Dolphin Gallery much success in their new location in the West Bottoms, and make plans to attend our new space in the Crossroads in late fall–more details will be available soon.
