Remembering the Future charts a contemplative journey that begins in the present and encourages viewers into the recesses of the past and toward the guiding lights of the future. Culled from the Kemper Museum’s rich collection of modern and contemporary art, this multimedia exhibition features a variety of works by artists such as Magdalena Abakanowicz, Christian Boltanski, Philip-Lorca diCorcia, and Hung Liu that thoughtfully explore themes of memory, time, and loss—immaterial and enigmatic phenomena intrinsic to the human condition. Visitors left behind their own memories on a designated wall in the gallery via “Post-it” notes. The collective “wall of memory” evolved through the run of the exhibition.
