| Born in Lahore, Pakistan, and based in New York City, Sikander examines the mythology of Indian miniature painting by adapting these techniques and images in her own miniature and large-scale paintings. Shahzia's work was exhibited in the 1997 Biennial Exhibition at the Whitney Museum of American Art, NYC. She was an artist in residence at the Kemper Museum, painting a mural in her gallery space for her exhibition. This was one of her first solo museum exhibitions. |
