| Korean-born, New York-based artist Nikki S. Lee examines the construction and interpretation of identity in conceptually based works that combine performance and photography. In her acclaimed Projects series, Lee documented through snapshots her transformed appearance (sometimes drastic) and assimilation into various subcultures and social and ethnic groups. Parts, Lee's most recent series, continues her fascination with identity but focuses on how it is understood through the male/female relationship. With Lee's male companions left mostly outside the frame, her snapshot images suggest truncated relationships that remain unexplained.
