| Ouattara
is an African artist, born in the Ivory Coast, who lives and works in
Paris, New York, and Abidjan, Ivory Coast. His large-scale assemblages,
which combine materials such as paint, dirt, and found objects, incorporate
African history, American rap music, voodoo, issues of colonialism, and
contemporary African politics. Exhibitions of contemporary African artists
are rare in the United States; the Kemper Museum was pleased to be able
to present six major works of this young and emerging artist who has also
shown at the Venice Biennale and in New York. |
