Liza Lou: Back Yard and Kitchen
July 25–October 18, 1998

"I am an artist and I am going to bead the world," writes California artist Liza Lou. Lou's two breathtakingly monumental projects Kitchen and Back Yard were presented together in this exhibition. Lou has literally beaded both a kitchen—including refrigerator, sink, and food—and a backyard, complete with picnic table, grill, and about a million blades of beaded grass. Conceived as companion pieces, the two create a beautifully sparkling, yet bizarre domestic setting.
