| Lezley Saar's mixed media works comprise the accumulation of layers of found objects, creating a visual history drawn from differing objects such as book pages, photographs, scraps of fabric, and other effects. Saar's added painted images suggest a dialogue with the objects upon which they are painted and a new narrative derived from the various layers in each work of art. Her work often comments on issues of race, gender, and identity. Saar was an artist in residence at the Kemper Museum. |
