Junichi Arai: Glistening Fabrics
April 19–June 15, 1997
read catalogue essay and see larger image   back to list   see current exhibitions   see upcoming exhibitions

One of the leading textile artists working in Japan, Arai devises new textures and patterns by experimenting with chemicals, heat, and color on fabrics, thus combining the ancient history of Japanese textile traditions with the contemporary, technological world. The results are often luminous apparitions that seem to be composed of light and sheer metallic color.
