| This was
the first exhibition in the United States to provide a view of major installation
works by internationally renowned artist Gary Hill, who won the 1995 International
Sculpture Prize at the Venice Biennale. Hill's installations and video
objects are compelling, haunting works that engage the viewer in real
time. Electronic and viewer space are interwoven in these works so that
the experience is not so much looking at (as in television viewing) as
it is engaging with (as in personal relationships). Technically complex,
and aesthetically beautiful, these works give us insight into art forms
now emerging which create art from the raw materials of late 20th-century
technology. |
