New York artist Nancy Hwang’s projects involve one-on-one interactions with random strangers. For her site-specific project at the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, the Korean-born artist will engage willing visitors in casual conversations with hopes to facilitate relationships between individuals. Her work This is not a couch. is designed to break down socially constructed barriers of people in public places and to help strangers get to know one another. During regular Museum hours, February 1–29, the Kemper Museum invites visitors to chat with Hwang on a couch in the Museum’s atrium. |
