The familiar becomes extraordinary in Neeta Madahar’s Falling (2005). In this video animation countless sycamore seeds cascade in slow motion toward the viewer in a mesmerizingly orchestrated descent. Accompanied by a musical score by composer Miguel d’Oliveira, Falling explores the beauty and unexpected drama of our everyday surroundings, transforming aspects of the natural world into a dreamlike state. Inspired by the act of looking Madahar creates an immersive environment. Falling was jointly commissioned by Fabrica Photoworks and the Institute of International Visual Arts.
