  Tours

Groups of ten or more may schedule free docent-led (guided) tours of the Kemper Museum’s permanent collection and special exhibitions. Tour reservations must be made two weeks in advance of the visit date. Maximum capacity is 50 people per one-hour tour. One chaperone for every ten students is required. Self-guided groups are strongly encouraged to make group tour reservations in advance, as well.

Preschool through university educators may schedule free school tours of the Kemper Museum. The objective of the Kemper Museum school tour program is to engage students in discussion about modern and contemporary art and how it relates to students’ education and lives. With advance input from classroom and art teachers, tour content can be tailored to the groups’ needs. Thematic content, interdisciplinary curriculum connections, vocabulary words, etc., can be integrated into guided tours. Free teacher resources related to special exhibitions and/or seasonal teacher workshops are also available throughout the school year to assist educators in planning Museum visits.

To book a group tour reservation, please download our Group Tour Registration Form. You can then print and complete the form and fax or mail it to us. For more information contact Jennifer Lapka Pfeifer at 816-457-6100 or jenniferlp(at)kemperart(dot)org.

Fifth-Grade Busing Program
Fifth-grade classroom and art teachers from Center School and Kansas City, Missouri, School Districts are part of the Museum’s Fifth-Grade Busing Program, generously funded by the H & R Block Foundation. The funds cover transportation costs for school groups to and from the Kemper Museum. The Fifth-Grade Busing Program provides an introduction to contemporary art, introduces students to a free community resource, and makes connections between the Museum’s exhibitions and students’ lives. Please download the Busing Fund Request Form and Map. Fifth-grade teachers are encouraged to work together with their school’s art teachers to integrate aspects of the Museum’s tours into the classroom curriculum.
