  For Teachers

Preschool through university educators may schedule free school tours of the Kemper Museum.
The objective of the Kemper Museum school tour program is to engage students in discussion about modern and contemporary art and how it relates to students’ education and lives. With advance input from classroom and art teachers, we can tailor tour content to the groups’ needs. Thematic content, interdisciplinary curriculum connections, vocabulary words, etc., can be integrated into guided tours. Free teacher resources related to special exhibitions and/or seasonal teacher workshops are also available throughout the school year to assist educators in planning Museum visits.

Fifth-Grade Busing Program
Fifth-grade classroom and art teachers from Center School and Kansas City, Missouri, School Districts are part of the Museum’s Fifth-Grade Busing Program, generously funded by the H & R Block Foundation. The funds cover transportation costs for school groups to and from the Kemper Museum. The Fifth-Grade Busing Program provides an introduction to contemporary art, introduces students to a free community resource, and makes connections between the Museum’s exhibitions and students' lives. Please download the Busing Fund Request Form and Map. Fifth-grade teachers are encouraged to work together with their school’s art teachers to integrate aspects of the Museum’s tours into the classroom curriculum.

To book a group tour reservation, please download our Group Tour Registration Form. You can then print and complete the form and fax or mail it to us. For more information contact Jennifer Lapka Pfeifer at 816-457-6100 or jenniferlp(at)kemperart(dot)org.

Teacher Resources
Free teacher packets are available for select special exhibitions and works in the Museum’s permanent collection during the school year. Lesson plans and suggested activities are included in each packet. A teacher resource packet will be emailed once your tour is confirmed. Teachers may contact the Museum’s education department at 816-457-6134 or bharris(at)kemperart(dot)org to inquire about available resources. Please review Tips and Chaperone Guidelines before tour date.

Teacher Workshops
After-school teacher "burnout buster" workshops are offered once each semester for educators of all levels. Connect with your colleagues, spend time in the Museum galleries, and gather ideas for your classroom.

School districts interested in planning district-wide in-service teacher workshops for integrating aspects of the Museum into their curriculum should contact the Museum’s education department at 816-457-6134 or bharris(at)kemperart(dot)org.
